According to the Federation for American Immigration Reform, Arizona recently changed policies with their new immigration law. This news has also been heavily in the news, as the New York Times did a poll stating 51 percent of American citizens agree with the new Arizona laws.

This same poll mentioned that while not everyone agreed with implementing Arizona’s laws nationwide, 78 percent of Americans believe that there needs to be changes to the current system. Some suggest that the new Arizona law encourages racial profiling (since police can detain those who they feel may be illegal immigrants). The Arizona Governor, Jan Brewer made changes though that will only allow officers to check people who they have stopped for breaking existing state law. This law is just the start of nationwide changes that will come as a result.
