Gaining a status of a permanent resident is probably the easiest through marriage to a US citizen. Just recently I read several articles about ladies from Ukraine and Russia who had arranged fake marriages with US citizens in order to get green cards. The process of immigration to the United States is complicated and sometimes fake marriages may slip through. However, when uncovered both spouses are held accountable. There are many so called agents who offer to find a marriage partner fwith a purpose of gaining a permanent resident status. Although it is illegal to knowingly provide incorrect information during the immigration proceedings, it is not illegal to provide matchmaking services. So, in the end the so called husband and wife are the ones held responsible.
